What is Mobile First Indexing that Google is talking about?

We all depend on Google Search every day for informations that we want to look upon or verify information that we receive or even Identify the identity of people to double check or confirm that we interact with. To say it that Google Search has become an inevitable tool in our culture be it work culture, at home or leisure. If you are a business be it B2B or B2C your revenue depends on how you leverage your Search Intent. Google in its mission conveys that “Our mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

Google claims that 70% of their search results displayed are from Mobile-First Indexing. Google has announced that come September 2020 all websites will crawled and indexed by Google’s Mobile-First Indexing, this was a an action anticipated by this year end anyway. This process of mobile-first indexing was started way back in the year November 2016 being four year old this is not a surprise move. IF your site was not Mobile friendly you would have been warned by Google through your search console. Refer the notice from Google that you would have received or will receive, snapshot as below image

Let See What is Mobile-First Indexing is all about

With the advent of smartphone most people use the Mobile devices for search queries do the ease of use & information on the go. Your site may not be crawled and indexed in Google search if you do not have a responsive site or a mobile site that loads on handheld devices. Mobile-First indexing will will indexes your web pages to optimize the search quires by the users who intend to search for your keywords. The Mobile-first algorithm will use the mobile version of your sites content to rank your pages in the SERP.

How can you find if your site is Mobile-first indexed? This can be verified in your Search Console, here you can see if is it Googlebot Desktop or Googlebot smartphone that has crawled your site pages, you can also see for when the switch over to Googlebot smartphone has happened the date will be displayed too. You can also see when your site was moved from desktop bot to smartphone bot under various charts within your search console. Beginning from July 2019 onwards all new website were automatically indexed using the Smartphone bot by default.
